Matt Town, “Coral,” 2024, 16mm film, black & white, silent, 11 minutes – Courtesy of the artist

Microscope is very pleased to present an artist talk with LA-based artist Matt Town on the closing day of his solo exhibition “Coral.” Town will be joined for the in-person conversation by artist and writer Matthew Lax, who lives between LA & New York. The talk will also be live-streamed on our site on this page.

The discussion will address the works on view and how the exhibition’s central theme of addiction — both as an endemic issue in the US and from the personal perspective of the artist, whose family has been deeply affected by addiction and the opioid crisis — is manifest in the sculptural installation series “Biminis” as well as in “Coral Reef”, a black box multi-media installation, and in “Coral,” a 16mm film for which he learned to scuba dive in order to plant a gravestone sculpture for his sister within a coral reef.

Further information about the Matt Town’s solo exhibition “Coral” can be found HERE.
